Akron season-ticket holder Marty Whims II won the school's "Offensive Coordinator For A Day" contest, giving him the chance to call plays for the Zips' first offensive series against Robert Morris on Sept. 12. The opportunity did not last long. Whims' first drive as a play-caller ended when a receiver fumbled the ball, per multiple outlets reporting the game.
The promotion gave the fan a rare chance to prove whether he could call plays better than the team's coaching staff. Before the game, Nick Saban offered Whims some advice during an appearance on ESPN's College GameDay, according to reporting from Yahoo Sports.
