Where BenchScout's data comes from

The archive

BenchScout ingests data from the sources below into its own store and serves every page and API response from that archive. Nothing is fabricated: every value is real data from a feed, or an honest gap.

Sources

  • MLB — MLB Stats API (statsapi.mlb.com): scores, schedules, standings, play-by-play, pitch data, box scores, and highlight clips.
  • NHL, NBA, NFL — ESPN public JSON feeds: scores, schedules, standings, and play-by-play.
  • News — headlines and summaries from ESPN feeds, always linking to the original story.
  • Odds — The Odds API; every poll is stored as a snapshot to build line-movement history.
  • Deep history — Retrosheet play-by-play (when imported). The information used here was obtained free of charge from and is copyrighted by Retrosheet (www.retrosheet.org).

Trademarks

BenchScout is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, ESPN, Retrosheet, or any team. Team names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners, used for identification only.

Win probability

Win probability and leverage figures are computed by BenchScout's own model from real game state (score, inning, outs, base runners) at ingest time. They are model outputs, labeled as such — not vendor data.
