The Brewers lead the NLCS 3-0 after a 6-2 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday night. Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning off Blake Snell. Per CBS Sports' Dayn Perry, Snell opened that inning with a walk, then gave up both homers before he was pulled. Perry's piece covers Dave Roberts explaining why he left Snell in. The summaries we have don't include Roberts' answer, so we can't report it.
True Blue LA's Eric Stephen wrote that Bauers had "another epically long at-bat" before his two-run shot. He also wrote that the Dodgers "finally got the big hit they needed, but it didn't matter." Our box score shows Los Angeles scored twice in the sixth, on Will Smith's two-run double. The Dodgers left 19 runners on base, and Milwaukee left 10. Jackson Chourio had already given the Brewers the lead with a leadoff homer in the first, per Sportsnet's highlights. In the box, Snell is charged with four earned runs on three homers and nine strikeouts over his outing. Bauers hit 26 homers in the regular season and Chourio 25. Mitchell hit 11 and carries a .770 OPS, so he was the less likely of the three to take Snell deep.
Robert Gasser started for Milwaukee and threw five shutout innings on 72 pitches, allowing three hits and one walk. Sportsnet's Hazel Mae interviewed him afterward, and he credited the team's grit: "We're a bunch of dirtbags out there." Abner Uribe then walked three in the sixth and gave up two runs. DL Hall got the win with 2.1 scoreless innings, and Trevor Megill finished for the save.
The series has been close throughout. Milwaukee won Game 1 by 2-1 and Game 2 by 7-4, both at home, and the Brewers have now won five straight. Los Angeles finished 100-62 and won the NL West, and it has lost three in a row. Milwaukee was 103-59 and won the NL Central. Yahoo Sports notes this reverses last year's NLCS, when the Dodgers eliminated Milwaukee in four games.
Game 4 is Thursday at Dodger Stadium, and the Dodgers need a win to stay alive. Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports that champagne and celebratory T-shirts will be on hand there in case the Brewers clinch. Their win would end the run of the two-time defending champions.
