The Big Ten is expanding access to replay reviews for all television broadcasts of games officiated by the league, beginning with Saturday's contests, ESPN reported.

The conference move comes as the NCAA establishes a standard timing protocol for replay reviews nationwide, per ESPN's Jake Trotter. In a memo from NCAA national coordinator of officials Ron Snodgrass, approved by secretary-rules editor Matt Young, the new guidance sets uniform procedures for clock management during reviews. According to multiple outlets, the new protocol would have altered the outcome of Michigan's disputed victory over Western Michigan on Saturday, when the Wolverines escaped with a 13-12 win. Reports differ on the final score—some outlets cite 12-7 at the end of regulation before an extra play—but agree that a controversial clock ruling allowed Michigan an additional play that proved decisive.

The NCAA's timing protocol announcement comes days after the Michigan-Western Michigan finish drew widespread criticism for how officials handled the final moments of the game.
