The Brewers and Rays open the 2026 World Series on Friday, Oct. 23, in Game 1 at Milwaukee. CBS Sports' Nick Stellini published a full odds-and-prediction preview, pitched at bettors. Yahoo Sports and SB Nation also ran prediction pieces. The feed summaries we have don't include the actual odds or the picks, so we can't tell you where the line opened or which side the writers favored.

SB Nation's Oliver Fox took a different angle. He wrote that it is "hard to imagine how this World Series matchup could have gone any worse" for Major League Baseball and its broadcast partners. His reasoning is that these are two of MLB's cheapest teams in two of its smallest media markets. He framed that as evidence against the argument from Commissioner Rob Manfred and the league's owners. The summary cuts off before the end of that argument, so we won't guess how he finished it. That is the only outlet in our material making a business case. The others treat it as a betting matchup.

On the field, Milwaukee comes in as the better regular-season team. The Brewers finished 103-59 and won the NL Central. They arrive on a five-game winning streak, and their last three results were all wins over the Dodgers: 7-4 at home on Oct. 12, then 6-2 and 6-4 in Los Angeles on Oct. 14 and 15.

Tampa Bay won the AL East at 98-64, five wins behind Milwaukee over 162 games. The Rays' most recent results came against Cleveland. They won 3-1 on Oct. 16, then 7-3 on Oct. 17 and 7-3 again at home on Oct. 19. Our records also list a one-game losing streak for Tampa Bay. That doesn't line up with those three wins, so we are not leaning on it.

The schedule shows Game 2 in Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 24. The series then moves to Tampa Bay for a game on Monday, Oct. 26. Game 1 is Friday night at Milwaukee.
