The Montreal Canadiens have signed head coach Martin St. Louis to a multiyear contract extension, the team announced Monday. Per Pro Hockey Rumors, St. Louis is now signed through the 2029-30 season on a four-year deal, up from a club option that was exercised to keep him through 2026-27.
St. Louis, 51, has overseen a significant turnaround in Montreal. He has guided the Canadiens to consecutive playoff berries, including a trip to last year's Eastern Conference final, after taking over during a full-scale rebuild. GM Kent Hughes praised the extension, saying St. Louis "hasn't given us reason to doubt him" and has "progressed the team every season he's been at the helm," according to Sportsnet.
In remarks following the extension, St. Louis said he has remained true to his coaching approach even as the team has improved, though he acknowledged that what he coaches may have evolved along the way.
