Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis was taken to a hospital after a "medical emergency" at the Buffaloes' team facility on Wednesday. ESPN reported that his father announced it Thursday. Yahoo Sports, citing the family, said Lewis is recovering. ClutchPoints, via Yahoo, attributed a statement to his father, T. Carlton Lewis, saying Lewis will be out of the lineup. The reporting we have gives no diagnosis, no cause and no timeline for a return. It does not say whether Lewis has left the hospital.

CBS Sports described Lewis as 19 and a former top-10 high school quarterback in his second season at Colorado. Only the ClutchPoints and Yahoo pieces carry the detail that he had already been benched, and the Yahoo commentary puts that at about a month. Our game logs agree. Lewis's last appearance was the September 26 game at Baylor, when he went 11 of 16 for 75 yards and lost 17 yards on four carries.

Before that, Lewis's season had been uneven. He threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns on 17-of-23 passing against Webster on September 12 and lost a fumble in that game. At Northwestern a week later he went 19 of 29 for 168 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Across the three games in our logs he has 609 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Isaac Wilson has taken the snaps since. He has thrown seven interceptions in the three games we have logged since October 3: three against Texas Tech, two against Utah and two at Oklahoma State. He also lost a fumble in each of the last two games. He passed for 292, 256 and 280 yards in those games. Yahoo's commentary says Wilson has struggled to make the change work, and the results fit that.

The team is 2-5, 0-4 in the Big 12 and 16th in the league, on a five-game losing streak. The last three losses were 57-24 at Oklahoma State on October 24, 27-24 to Utah on October 17 and 29-7 to Texas Tech on October 3.

The immediate question is Saturday's home game against Kansas State. Lewis had already lost the starting job, so his absence probably changes little about who starts. Nothing we have says Wilson's role is changing.
