The Chicago Cubs lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Aug. 26, with Pete Crow-Armstrong visibly frustrated over a missed call that could have changed the game's outcome. The umpiring crew failed to call a balk on Diamondbacks pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez while Crow-Armstrong was on third base in what multiple outlets describe as a scoreless game at the time.
Crew chief Alfonso Márquez acknowledged the error after the game. According to a report citing Montemurro, Márquez said the umpires "just didn't see it," but added that "after looking at the video (postgame), it looked like he stepped off." The balk would have allowed Crow-Armstrong to score and given the Cubs a 1-0 lead. The Cubs ultimately lost the game in a shutout, dropping two of three games in the series.
