The Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list with a right middle finger blister and shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain. Swanson suffered the injury during Sunday's game after an awkward swing. ESPN and MLB.com reported that Swanson's is a Grade 2 oblique strain and could sideline him for 4-6 weeks.
In corresponding moves, the Cubs recalled right-hander Javier Assad and called up infielders Owen Miller and outfielder Kevin Alcántara. Infielder James Triantos was optioned to Triple-A Iowa, and right-hander Daniel Palencia was transferred to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man roster spot. MLB.com's Jordan Bastian raised the possibility that Cabrera's recurring injuries could prompt a shift to a bullpen role, though the Cubs have not announced any such change.
