Jacob deGrom reached 2,000 career strikeouts Thursday night as the Texas Rangers defeated the Washington Nationals 2-0. deGrom struck out the first two batters of the game to achieve the milestone.
Per multiple outlets, deGrom reached the mark in the second-fewest games and innings pitched in MLB history. Sportsnet reported that deGrom became the fastest right-handed pitcher to reach 2,000 strikeouts. Yahoo Sports noted that only Chris Sale reached the milestone in fewer innings pitched than deGrom, making him the second-fastest to the mark overall. deGrom is one of 94 pitchers in MLB history to reach 2,000 strikeouts.
