Defenseman Thomas Harley scored with 0.2 seconds left in the first period. Arttu Hyry added an empty-netter with 0.3 seconds left in the game. The Stars beat the Blue Jackets 3-1 at American Airlines Center on Saturday night, per the AP account carried by Yahoo Sports and ESPN. Sportsnet's highlight package also credits Mikko Rantanen with a goal, which the AP excerpts we have don't get to.

The box score fills in the rest. Dallas led 2-0 after the first period, and Columbus got its only goal in the third from defenseman Damon Severson. Rantanen scored, and the Stars went 1-for-2 on the power play. Columbus had one power play and didn't score on it.

The shot count was lopsided, but not in Dallas's favor. Columbus outshot the Stars 26-17 and outhit them 32-10. Oettinger stopped 25 of the 26 shots and Dallas blocked 13. Columbus goalie Jet Greaves faced 17 shots, and the Blue Jackets' shot total didn't decide the game. Hyry had a goal and an assist, finished +2 and took four shots. Our records show Hyry's other numbers as well. Harley's goal, the one that closed the first period, was his only point of the night.

The result gives Dallas some relief. The Stars are 8-5 and third in the Central Division, but they came in having lost 5-1 to New Jersey on Tuesday and 5-2 to Montreal on Thursday. Saturday's win halted that run and put them on a one-game winning streak.

For Columbus the loss is a second straight. The Blue Jackets are 5-7 and seventh in the Metropolitan Division. They lost 3-2 at Carolina on Thursday after a 4-3 win at Philadelphia on Tuesday, so their last two games have been decided by one goal and by an empty-netter. Both scoring droughts came against teams that kept the margin close.

Columbus is back home Tuesday, Nov. 3, against Colorado. Dallas travels the same night to face Washington.
