Iván Herrera hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, per ESPN and multiple other outlets. The home run capped a back-and-forth game that saw the Cardinals build an early lead before the bullpen faltered.
According to Viva El Birdos, Andrea Pallante pitched five innings to start for St. Louis, while early runs came from Gorman, Saggese, Burleson and Walker to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. The bullpen struggled, however, with a difficult debut by Hancel Rincon allowing Colorado to take a 6-4 advantage.
The Rockies had erased a three-run deficit with a four-run sixth inning before Herrera's ninth-inning blast off Jordan Romano swung the game back to St. Louis. ESPN reported the victory tightened a crowded race for the final National League wild card.
