Thunder wing Jalen Williams fractured his fibula and dislocated his left ankle and will have surgery, head of basketball operations Sam Presti said at a Monday press conference, per Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman via Hoops Rumors. Presti added that Williams was in good spirits and very optimistic about the recovery. The injury happened in Sunday's 108-101 win over the Clippers, with less than two minutes left, per Yahoo Sports. Williams was taken off the floor on a stretcher.

Hoops Rumors' first report said Williams took a hard fall in which his left ankle bent the wrong way. It said he tried to get up using teammate Chet Holmgren before the stretcher was brought out. Yahoo Sports reported that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fought back tears in his postgame interview. Hoops Rumors also noted that Williams was coming off an injury-plagued 2025/26 season.

Cason Wallace is also out. Hoops Rumors lists both players as out indefinitely. Yahoo Sports gives a diagnosis for Wallace that the Hoops Rumors summary doesn't: a torn labrum. Yahoo says both starters are likely to miss most or all of the season, and its headline says they could miss the rest of 2026-27. Presti's reported comments, as summarized, don't give a return date, so treat that as Yahoo's read rather than a team timeline.

Wallace's box score is the one oddity. He played only 6 minutes against the Clippers (4 points, 2 steals), against a season average of 16.3 minutes. The reporting we have doesn't say when he was hurt in the game, so we can't tie the short night to the injury. Yahoo's piece says both starters went down Sunday night.

Williams was playing his usual role. He logged 32 minutes with 8 points on 3-of-8 shooting, 5 assists and 2 steals, against a season line of 31.7 minutes and 38.5% from the field. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 on 13-of-26 shooting. Ajay Mitchell had 18 off the bench in 28 minutes, and he is the kind of rotation piece who may absorb more minutes now.

The Thunder are 3-0 and lead the Northwest, with wins over San Antonio (116-104 on Oct. 20), Denver (96-84) and the Clippers. Yahoo reports the Spurs are now the favorites for the 2027 title, ahead of Oklahoma City. Sportsnet's By The Books segment asked whether the Thunder can stay in the futures market without their No. 2 option.

Oklahoma City visits Dallas on Wednesday, Oct. 28, without both starters. The Clippers, 1-1, host the Lakers the same night.
