Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs pleaded no contest Thursday to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property, per reporting from multiple outlets. The charges stem from a May altercation with his girlfriend, per Sportsnet.

Jacobs was arrested in May and has since been placed on the commissioner exempt list by the NFL. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the court ordered Jacobs to avoid contacting the victim, attend counseling, and pay restitution.

The plea deal resolves the legal proceedings and clears the way for the NFL to conclude its investigation and issue a suspension, per CBS Sports. The resolution removes a procedural obstacle that typically prevents the league from imposing discipline while criminal matters are pending.
