The box score for the game shows how early it got away from New York. Los Angeles led 3-1 after one period and 5-2 after two. Reimer was pulled after 20 minutes having stopped 5 of 8 shots, a .625 save percentage. Dylan Garand finished the game and stopped 15 of 17. At the other end, Darcy Kuemper stopped 22 of 25. Shots were nearly even, 26 for the Kings and 25 for the Rangers, so the gap came from goaltending and finishing. Doughty also finished plus-3 in 21:37. Edmundson had a goal and an assist and was plus-3 as well.

Special teams were tight. Both clubs scored once on the power play. The Kings had three chances to the Rangers' one, and New York took four penalties to Los Angeles's two.

Two details in the wire copy don't match our data. Yahoo's headline calls this the Rangers' first home game of the season. The AP copy says the Kings were winless through their first six games and have won three of four, all on the road. Our tables show New York at 7-6 and second in the Metropolitan Division. They show Los Angeles at 3-5 and seventh in the Pacific. The Kings' last four results in our archive don't match the AP description either. We can't reconcile those lines, so treat the first-home-game and winless-start claims with caution. The score, the scorers and the three-goal first period are consistent across outlets and the box.

The Rangers' slide is real, though. They lost 5-4 at Toronto on Thursday and 7-4 at Ottawa on Saturday before this one. That is 18 goals against in three games. Reimer's 2025 line in our archive was 24 games, 10 wins, 10 losses, a .897 save percentage and a 3.04 GAA. The archive doesn't say how the Rangers will split the net next, and none of the reporting does either.

New York next hosts Edmonton on Sunday, Nov. 1. Los Angeles plays at Chicago on Tuesday night and then hosts Ottawa on Thursday.
