Special teams decided it. The box score shows Boston scoring on three of its four power plays. Anaheim went 0-for-5, which fits the Yahoo Sports takeaway that special-teams failures erased the Ducks' early lead. Anaheim outshot Boston 27-22 and outhit the Bruins 23-11. Boston blocked 18 shots to Anaheim's seven, and Lukas Dostal stopped 18 of 22 for the Ducks. Michael DiPietro made 25 saves on 27 shots for Boston.

Elias Lindholm also did the less visible work. He played 18:30, split between 3:12 on the power play and 4:13 on the penalty kill, and won 18 of his 23 faceoffs (78.3 percent). Boston won 40 of the game's 58 draws. Lindholm's 2025 line was 17 goals and 30 assists in 82 games. Friday's goal and assist made up a good share of the offence he produced in the four-game streak's opening games, when he had been mostly setting up others or going without a point, including a scoreless night at San Jose.

Yahoo's takeaways piece found one positive for Anaheim: Cutter Gauthier's move to center. He had an assist and four shots in 21:20. He lost 16 of his 20 faceoffs, so the position change is still a work in progress. His season line before this game was 2 goals and 2 assists in five games, with 6 penalty minutes.

Anaheim is 4-3 and fourth in the Pacific, having lost two in a row, both by 4-2, the other to Calgary on Tuesday. The Ducks play at the Rangers on Monday, Oct. 19. Boston is first in the Atlantic. Its 6-3 win at San Jose on Tuesday and 5-1 win over Philadelphia last Saturday are part of the streak. The Bruins play at Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 17, then at Dallas on Oct. 20.
