The MAC has appealed the outcome of Saturday's game between Western Michigan and Michigan, asking the NCAA and College Football Playoff to recognize the Broncos as the winner, according to multiple outlets. The conference announced the appeal on Sept. 8.
The game ended controversially in Ann Arbor, with Michigan ultimately recorded as winning 13-12 on a Hail Mary pass, per reports. The replay official added one second back to the clock, a decision the MAC now contests. In its appeal statement, the MAC asserted that "protocol was not properly followed" and called out the Big Ten's replay protocol specifically.
The MAC's reversal marks a shift from an earlier position. Multiple outlets reported the conference had initially accepted the result before changing course following what one outlet described as "further study" of the controversial ending.
