Shohei Ohtani will not pitch for the Dodgers on Sunday after experiencing knee discomfort during a bullpen session Friday, the team announced. The setback delays what was expected to be his return to the mound following injuries that have sidelined him since July 3, per MLB Trade Rumors.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Ohtani's "left knee and overall body is not 100%," and ruled out starts on both Sunday and Tuesday. Roberts added, per Yahoo Sports, that he does not expect Ohtani to reach full health by the end of the season. Multiple outlets report that a return to pitching remains possible but is not imminent.
Ohtani has dealt with both knee and biceps issues during his absence from the rotation. The timeline for his pitching return remains uncertain.
