The Baltimore Orioles defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-7 Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, withstanding a Cardinals comeback after jumping out to a commanding early lead.
The Orioles built a 7-0 advantage through two innings before St. Louis staged a rally. According to one report, the Cardinals nearly completed the comeback, though Baltimore ultimately prevailed. Pete Alonso contributed a home run—his 32nd of the season—while Leody Taveras added a three-run shot. Christian Encarnacion-Strand went 4-for-4 with two RBIs in the win.
Separately, the Orioles placed right fielder Tyler O'Neill on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation. O'Neill suffered the injury while making a diving catch Saturday against the Rays, according to ESPN.
