The Cowboys and Packers met at Lambeau Field on Sunday night to close out the Week 6 slate. Yahoo Sports and Niners Nation both framed it as "the highest-scoring game of Week 6" and described two high-powered offenses. Sportsnet and the other outlets ran live trackers and open threads. Our archive's last update on the game has Green Bay ahead 10-0 with 2:00 left in the second quarter. The Packers scored 7 in the first quarter and 3 in the second, and Dallas has not scored. We have no final score, so this piece covers the first half only.
Green Bay's early edge shows up most on third down, where it was 7 of 8 against Dallas's 3 of 6. The Packers had 186 total yards to 105 and 6.2 yards per play to 4.8. Jordan Love was 11 of 16 for 158 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Matthew Golden caught the touchdown and had three catches for 50 yards, and Christian Watson had two for 55. Trey Smack kicked a 25-yard field goal. Both teams have thrown one interception. Evan Williams picked off Dak Prescott for the Packers, and Dee Winters had Dallas's interception.
Prescott was 10 of 13 for 80 yards with an interception, a 59.8 rating. CeeDee Lamb had two catches for 22 yards on five targets. Dallas had just 25 rushing yards on nine carries and was flagged five times for 30 yards. It went 0 for 1 in the red zone, and Green Bay was 1 for 2. Quinnen Williams has a sack and two tackles for loss. Neither team has scored since the opening quarter, and the points the previews promised have not shown up yet.
The previews pointed to a closer matchup than 10-0 suggests. Bleeding Green Nation had Dallas at 2-3 and Green Bay at 3-2, with the Packers leading the all-time series 17-13-1 and winning three of the last four meetings. Niners Nation noted that the Cowboys' +2 point differential is better than the Packers' -8, even with the worse record. It also said Green Bay enters sixth in total defensive EPA but 18th in success rate. Pride of Detroit's Jeremy Reisman said the Packers looked rebounded from a 1-2 start after winning two in a row.
The form we hold matches that. Green Bay beat Chicago 31-7 on Oct. 11 and won 17-14 at Tampa Bay on Oct. 4, after losing 35-14 to Atlanta on Sept. 24. Dallas has lost twice in its last three, 24-16 to Tampa Bay and 34-31 to Baltimore. In between it won 34-30 at Houston. Those scores are why a high-scoring game was expected, and the first half has not delivered one.
The next games are at Lambeau's two rivals. Green Bay visits Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 25. The Lions are 3-2 and third in the NFC North, and Pride of Detroit has already flagged the game. Dallas goes to Philadelphia on Monday, Oct. 26. The final score from Lambeau will settle what each team brings into those games.
