The San Diego Padres have acquired right-handed pitcher Casey Mize from the Detroit Tigers, per MLB Trade Rumors. The deal also sends infielder Gage Workman to San Diego, while Detroit receives left-handed pitching prospect Kash Mayfield and southpaw Jackson Wolf.
The trade marks the Padres' second significant pitching addition at the deadline. Earlier the same day, San Diego acquired Robbie Ray, per CBS Sports. ESPN reported that the Padres moved forward with the Mize trade despite some concerns surrounding the acquisition.
CBS Sports gave the Padres an A grade for what it characterized as an overhaul of their rotation, while assessing the Tigers as closing up shop ahead of the deadline.
