The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed restricted free agent forward Ville Koivunen to an eight-year contract worth $4 million in annual average value, the team announced Thursday. The deal totals $32 million over its term.
Koivunen, 23, is represented by Ian Pulver of The Will Sports Group. Per Pro Hockey Rumors, the contract includes varied salary and signing bonus structures across its years, beginning with $850,000 in salary and $2 million in signing bonus for the 2026-27 season.
The extension signals the Penguins view Koivunen as part of their long-term plans as the franchise manages the later stages of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang's careers. However, Yahoo Sports noted the organization is making a substantial commitment to a player with limited NHL production—just two goals so far in his career at the professional level.
