The Philadelphia Phillies have signed left-hander Nestor Cortes to a major league contract, per Robert Murray of FanSided. Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reported earlier that the two sides were in negotiations.
Cortes is working his way back from arm surgery. According to MLB Trade Rumors, he made eight starts in the majors this season before the injury.
The Good Phight characterized the move as a depth addition for a rotation and bullpen that have been stretched thin. The Phillies currently occupy the second wild card spot in the NL East.
