Rashee Rice is set to play when the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons reported. Cornerback Mansoor Delane is listed as questionable. ESPN described Rice's issue as a hamstring injury and said he is expected back. The feed summaries we have don't say how many practices he took part in. They also don't say what is behind Delane's questionable tag.
Rice's return matters because he has been gone a while. His last appearance was the Sept. 27 game at Miami, when he caught seven passes for 88 yards on nine targets. For the season he has 13 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown on 16 targets in four games. That is 14.6 yards a catch, with a long of 34. The touchdown came in the Week 1 meeting with Denver, when he had two catches for 19 yards. Kansas City has played six games, so he has missed at least two of them. Our logs show his last game as Sept. 27.
Arrowhead Pride's Ron Kopp Jr. posted the Chiefs' final official injury report of the week, which came via team reporter Matt McMullen on X. The excerpt we have cuts off before the full list of names. Yahoo Sports ran both the PFT item and the Arrowhead Pride report. Only the PFT and Yahoo copy carries Delane's questionable status. ESPN's summary covers Rice alone.
Delane has 27 tackles, 17 of them solo, in five games this season, with no sacks and no forced fumbles. That makes him a regular part of the defense, but we can't say how large a role from these numbers alone. His absence would only be a concern if the questionable tag turns into an inactive designation, which the reporting doesn't say.
Kansas City is 5-1 and first in the AFC West, but it comes in off a 20-3 loss at Seattle on Oct. 25 that ended a run of two wins. Those were a 22-6 win over the Chargers and a 30-27 win at Las Vegas. Denver is 5-2 and second in the division. The Broncos have won three in a row, 23-17 at the Chargers, 17-14 over Seattle and 30-16 at Arizona. That puts them a game behind the Chiefs.
The game kicks off Sunday, Nov. 1, in Denver. A Broncos win would tie the teams at the top of the division on record. Whether Delane plays should be settled when inactives come out before kickoff.
