Kawhi Leonard had a hidden, multimillion-dollar endorsement deal with Daktronics, the manufacturer of the Los Angeles Clippers' scoreboard at Intuit Dome, according to reporting from podcaster and investigative journalist Pablo Torre and Sam Koppelman of Hunterbrook Media. Torre shared the findings on his podcast Thursday.
Several outlets reported that Torre and Koppelman were unable to find evidence that Leonard actually performed work for the sponsorship. The reported agreement adds to existing scrutiny of the Clippers' financial practices, as the organization has already been under investigation over a separate undisclosed deal with the now-defunct company Aspiration, per multiple reports. The Clippers and Leonard have faced allegations that these arrangements were designed to circumvent NBA salary cap rules.
The new reporting comes as Leonard remains at the center of trade speculation, with some outlets noting his next-team odds have shifted following the disclosure.
