MLB.com indicated Schmidt is likely out for the postseason entirely, while other outlets specified he will miss at least the Wild Card Series. Schmidt had served as a bullpen option for the Yankees but, per MLB Trade Rumors, has been "a non-factor for a while."
The injury adds to the Yankees' mounting health concerns as they head into the playoffs. Associated Press reporting also noted that outfielders Aaron Stanton and Harrison Grisham were hit by pitches during recent games.
