The Seahawks activated running back Zach Charbonnet from the physically-unable-to-perform list on Thursday and added him to the 53-man roster. To make room, they placed tight end Elijah Arroyo on injured reserve, per NFL Trade Rumors. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Arroyo will miss the rest of the season after shoulder surgery on Thursday.

Charbonnet has not played this season. ESPN noted he had his second straight full practice before the move. Field Gulls described the timing as just under the wire of the three-week practice window, and NFL Trade Rumors said he was at the end of his 21-day window. Field Gulls also called the Arroyo move expected and framed it as a reinforcement after a season-long battle of attrition in the backfield. Yahoo Sports said the move brings help to a struggling running game. None of the reporting we have gives the injury behind Charbonnet's PUP placement or says how many snaps he will get.

His 2025 numbers show what Seattle has been missing. ESPN's feed says he scored 12 touchdowns last season. Our data has him at 730 rushing yards on 184 carries, a 4.0 average, with all 12 touchdowns coming on the ground. He added 20 catches for 144 yards. He played all 16 games, and his last was a 20-yard, five-carry outing against San Francisco on Jan. 17. His 2024 line was 569 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns on 135 carries, plus 42 catches for 308 yards.

Arroyo's loss is the cost on the other side of the move. He played in six games this season, and our box scores credit him with one tackle. The reporting does not say how Seattle will cover the tight end spot.

The team Charbonnet rejoins is 3-3 and second in the NFC West, and it has lost two in a row. It fell 32-29 to San Francisco on Oct. 11, then 17-14 at Denver on Oct. 15 after beating the Chargers 30-23 on Oct. 4. Both losses were by three points or fewer.

The next test is Sunday, when Kansas City visits Seattle. Charbonnet has had two full practices, and Seattle has not said whether he will play against the Chiefs.
