Teddy Bridgewater is stepping away from the Detroit Lions, with head coach Dan Campbell announcing Sunday that the quarterback is retiring from the NFL. The Lions have placed Bridgewater on the retired list, per NFL Trade Rumors. When asked if Bridgewater's departure constituted a retirement, Campbell suggested that's where things stand, though he noted that only Bridgewater can truly answer the question, per Pride of Detroit.
The 33-year-old Bridgewater, a former first-round pick of the Vikings, has been in the NFL since 2014. The Lions will need a new backup quarterback and may bring someone in as soon as Monday, per Campbell. In addition to Bridgewater's departure, the Lions announced Sunday they signed cornerback Ryan Cooper and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga while waiving tight end Nick Muse, according to NFL Trade Rumors.
