With his team leading by more than three touchdowns early in the fourth quarter, Lawrence broke free on a designed quarterback run but knelt at the 1-yard line rather than cross the goal line for a touchdown.
When asked about the decision, Lawrence laughed it off and referenced fantasy football. Per Pro Football Talk, the quarterback said he "was just trying to help Bhayshul Tuten fantasy owners," referring to Jaguars tight end Bhayshul Tuten.
ESPN reported that Lawrence acknowledged the obvious fantasy implications of his choice, laughing off what the outlet described as a "clock-killing blunder." CBS Sports noted that anytime touchdown bettors for Lawrence would likely not appreciate the decision. Jacksonville won the game decisively over New England.
