The Yankees have designated right-handed reliever Justin Topa for assignment, per MLB Trade Rumors. In a corresponding move, the team activated left-hander Max Fried from the 15-day injured list. The moves give New York two open spots on its 40-man roster.

Topa, who has played for the Twins, Royals, and Blue Jays this season before joining the Yankees, now enters the waiver process. Fried's activation comes as the Yankees look to shore up their pitching depth down the stretch.
