The Yankees placed reliever Fernando Cruz on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow discomfort, per multiple outlets. The move came ahead of the team's game against Houston.
To fill the roster spot, New York signed veteran right-hander Michael Fulmer to a major league contract, per MLB Trade Rumors. The Yankees also recalled Elmer Rodríguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned Bradley Hanner to the same affiliate in corresponding moves.
ESPN described Cruz as a "slumping reliever" at the time of the placement. No details about the severity of his injury or expected timeline for return were available in the reporting.
