The Milwaukee Brewers finished a four-game National League Championship Series sweep of the Dodgers on Thursday night, winning Game 4 6-4 at Dodger Stadium. Milwaukee is going to its first World Series since 1982. That ends Los Angeles' attempt at a third straight title. Yahoo Sports' game story said the Brewers "answered" the Dodgers in every game of the series.

The Dodgers got the start they wanted. Shohei Ohtani hit his first home run in 58 days, per Yahoo, and the box score shows it was a three-run shot in a four-run second inning. Milwaukee's bullpen then took over. Tyler Glasnow lasted 4.1 innings and allowed four runs, and the Brewers scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Dodgers stranded 14 runners and never scored again. Ashby threw three scoreless innings for the save, and JoJo Romero got the win with two scoreless innings. Tanner Scott took the loss.

Jake Bauers was named NLCS MVP. CBS Sports' Matt Snyder noted he is the first Brewers LCS MVP, even though the club won the 1982 pennant. In Game 4 he drove in three runs. He hit 26 home runs with an .873 OPS in the regular season, so he was one of the lineup's most productive bats before October.

David Hamilton supplied the ninth-inning cushion. Yahoo reported that the No. 9 hitter hit a two-out solo homer off Edwin Díaz to make it a two-run lead. It was an unlikely source of power. Hamilton hit four home runs in 121 games this season, with a .650 OPS. Garrett Mitchell also homered for Milwaukee.

The outlets differ on how to frame the history. Yahoo's headlines say the Brewers have reached their first World Series since 1982. A second Yahoo piece calls this their "first ever NL pennant", which is hard to square with the 1982 trip. The Brewers were in the American League in 1982, and CBS's note about the 1982 pennant points the same way. Yahoo's own headline writers don't agree on this. MLB.com's Adam McCalvy put the wait at 44 years, and Sportsnet said the Dodgers are no longer the best team in the National League.

The regular season fits that view. Milwaukee finished 103-59 and won the NL Central. Los Angeles won the NL West at 100-62. The Brewers won Game 1 7-4 at home on Monday, then Game 3 by 6-2 and Game 4 by 6-4 in Los Angeles. The Dodgers lost every game of the series.

Our archive doesn't yet show the World Series opponent or schedule, so what comes next for Milwaukee is still open.
