Game 4 of the ALCS between the Guardians and Rays was pushed to Saturday night after Friday's weather. Per Battery Power, it was postponed from Friday because of rain, and Cleveland leads the series 2-1. Viva El Birdos reports that the Guardians will start right-hander Shawn Armstrong and the Rays will counter with right-hander Nick Martinez. Yahoo Sports framed the night as the start of a rare potential four-straight games in the playoffs. Our archive shows the game live and scoreless.

The outlets differ slightly on timing. Battery Power lists an 8 p.m. start on TBS, truTV and HBO Max, and the r/baseball game thread says 8:08 PM. Viva El Birdos gives 7:08 p.m. central, which is the same as 8:08 Eastern. Viva El Birdos adds the caveat "assuming the weather doesn't interfere." Only Viva El Birdos names the starters, so the matchup rests on that report.

The pitching gap on paper is large. Martinez made 31 appearances and threw 180.0 innings this season, going 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA and 109 strikeouts. Armstrong appeared in 41 games but threw only 35.1 innings, going 2-1 with a 4.58 ERA and 34 strikeouts. That works out to under an inning per outing, so how deep Cleveland can take him is an open question that the reporting doesn't answer.

The series has gone the way the standings might not suggest. Tampa Bay won the AL East at 98-64, while Cleveland took the AL Central at 85-77. Cleveland won Game 1 at Tampa Bay 7-3 on Oct. 12, and the Rays answered with a 3-1 win on Oct. 13. Cleveland then took Game 3 at home 3-2 on Thursday. Both clubs enter Saturday with a one-game losing streak, which for the Rays is Thursday's loss.

The stakes are simple. A Cleveland win would put it one victory from the pennant, and a Rays win would level the series at 2-2. The teams are next scheduled to play Monday, Oct. 19, at Tampa Bay, in the game our schedule lists as Cleveland at Tampa Bay.
