Will Shipley will miss weeks with a foot injury, per reports, dealing another blow to the Eagles running back room already depleted by injuries to Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby. ESPN reported that Shipley was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jaguars with the foot injury. The Eagles are now down to two healthy running backs on their active roster, according to CBS Sports.
The timing compounds Philadelphia's struggles. The Eagles lost 19–17 at Jacksonville on Sunday, extending a three-game losing streak. They are 2–3 and sit second in the NFC East. Shipley had appeared in four games this season, recording two total tackles with one solo tackle on defense—a defensive-heavy workload that suggests limited offensive snaps before the injury.
The full extent of the Eagles' backfield damage has accumulated through the early part of the 2026 season. Barkley and Bigsby were already out before Shipley's injury was reported. With Shipley now sidelined for weeks, the Eagles will need to lean heavily on whoever remains healthy—a position that leaves them with minimal depth at a position that typically requires rotation.
The Eagles also dealt with another injury blow during Sunday's loss: safety Michael Carter was ruled out with an abdomen injury. He took a hit while attempting to tackle Jacksonville's Bhayshul Tuten with under a minute remaining in the first half and came off the field. Carter had recorded six total tackles before leaving the game and did not return.
Philadelphia faces Carolina next on October 18 as it tries to arrest the three-game slide. How the Eagles navigate the running back position without Shipley, Barkley and Bigsby will be a key storyline heading into that matchup.
