The Milwaukee Brewers went into Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday, Oct. 28, up 3-1 at Tampa Bay, with Jacob Misiorowski starting against the Rays' Drew Rasmussen. Our box scores show Milwaukee won 4-1. The Rays had said beforehand that they needed a win, and by that result they didn't get one. The outlets we have were all pregame discussion threads, so none of their material describes how the game was played.
The setup was clear in those threads. Yahoo Sports framed it as the Brewers "again going for glory" and the Rays needing a win "or it's all over." A recap-style Yahoo item said the Rays had not held off Milwaukee until the early hours of Wednesday morning on the East Coast, and that the win kept "the most improbable of comebacks" alive. That item also mentioned a "huge homer (at the time)" from shortstop Cooper, but the summary cuts off there, so we can't say more. Viva El Birdos, repeating the Yahoo thread text, put first pitch at 7 p.m. Central. Battery Power called it the Brewers' second chance to clinch the 2026 title.
The Game 4 result is in our records. Tampa Bay won 4-3 on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in extra innings, after Milwaukee had won 10-1 in the game before it. That makes the Rays' season a 98-64 AL East title and the Brewers' a 103-59 NL Central title. Milwaukee now has five straight wins in our data. Tampa Bay's streak is one loss.
The pitching matchup was close on paper. Both starters finished the regular season 16-5 in 30 appearances. Misiorowski had the better numbers: a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts in 174.2 innings. Rasmussen had a 2.67 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 172.0 innings. The Brewers' 4-1 win fits that gap, though we have not pulled the Game 5 box score to say how it was decided.
There is one inconsistency in our own data. The Brewers were 3-1 up before Game 5, so a win would normally end the series. Yet our schedule still lists Tampa Bay at Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 30, and another game on Oct. 31, both not started. We can't tell from the reporting whether those entries are stale or the series count is different, so we are not calling the title. Check Friday's game for confirmation.
