Hudson, 31, signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas in 2018, spending most of his rookie season on the practice squad before Tampa Bay re-signed him. He joined the Bengals this year and has appeared in four games, recording four total tackles—two solo and two assisted—with no sacks or forced fumbles through the first five weeks.

The Bengals sit at 3–2 after their win over Miami and are in fourth place in the AFC North. They have won their last game and face a trip to Baltimore on October 25. The loss of Hudson comes as Cincinnati aims to maintain momentum in a competitive division race; the team suffered back-to-back losses to Pittsburgh and Jacksonville before last Sunday's victory. Hudson's limited role this season—four games played in a five-game span—means the absence may not reshape the Bengals' tight end rotation significantly, but it removes depth from the position for the stretch run.
