The Seattle Seahawks have ruled out quarterback Sam Darnold for Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals due to a glute injury, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed. The team has no plans to place Darnold on injured reserve, per multiple reports.
Darnold will miss his first game since becoming Seattle's starting quarterback. Drew Lock is expected to make the start in his place, with one report from Yahoo Sports mentioning the possibility of backup Jalen Milroe also seeing action.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Darnold is "more day-to-day than week-to-week," suggesting a relatively short-term injury. A Seahawks team spokesperson previously characterized the injury as short-term, indicating the quarterback could return in the coming weeks rather than face an extended absence.
