Miguel Rojas is retiring as a player. He told reporters after the Dodgers were eliminated by the Brewers on Thursday evening that the game was his last, per MLB Trade Rumors, which cited Alden González of ESPN. Yahoo Sports and True Blue LA both put it as 13 seasons, four of them with the Dodgers. MLB Trade Rumors called the news no huge surprise, noting that Rojas said last fall he intended to retire.
The Fox broadcast, shared on r/baseball, caught his own words: "This is it as a player, that was my last game played, that was the last time I put these cleats on and this uniform on as a player." Yahoo Sports quoted him on what comes next: "I want to wear this uniform or this logo in a different capacity and continue to make the organization better." None of the feed summaries we have say what that role might be, so nothing has been announced.
The last game itself was an odd one. Jack Baer of Yahoo Sports wrote that Rojas was pulled in the second inning, before he had taken a first at-bat. The summaries don't say why he came out, and True Blue LA's Eric Stephen only describes him sitting at his locker once the clubhouse opened to media. Yahoo's other pieces call him a 2025 postseason hero, and MLB Trade Rumors adds that he is a two-time World Series winner.
His final regular season was productive. In 107 games he hit .267 with a .703 OPS, 60 hits, 4 home runs and 23 RBI. The Dodgers finished 100-62 and won the NL West. The Brewers went 103-59 and took the NL Central. Milwaukee won the series by taking the last three games shown in our data: 7-4 on Monday, Oct. 12, 6-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and 6-4 on Thursday, Oct. 15. Yahoo calls it a sweep.
Our schedule still lists a Dodgers-Brewers game at Dodger Stadium for Friday, Oct. 16, as well as games in Milwaukee on Oct. 18 and 19. That doesn't fit with reports that the Dodgers were eliminated Thursday, so treat those entries as unreliable. The reporting we have points to Rojas's playing career ending Thursday, and the next thing to watch is whether the Dodgers announce the role he mentioned.
