The Titans released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott on Tuesday, following what the club described as an incident at its team facility. Jim Wyatt posted the team's statement, and r/nfl reproduced it: "On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter."
That statement is the only detail on the incident itself. It doesn't say what happened, who was involved, or whether discipline or an investigation beyond the team's own review is under way. Pro Football Talk, Yahoo Sports and NFL Trade Rumors carry only the release and the club's wording. CBS Sports and Yahoo both put "incident" in quotation marks, which reflects how little the team has said.
NFL Trade Rumors added the contract detail: Elliott had signed a two-year deal worth up to $8.5 million this offseason, following head coach Robert Saleh from San Francisco. CBS Sports also noted the Saleh connection and said Elliott appeared in all five games this season. Neither outlet said anything about what the release does to the contract.
Our game logs show his regular-season role was modest. Elliott played in five games, from the Sept. 13 opener against the Jets through the Oct. 11 loss to Houston. He finished with 11 tackles, two of them solo, no sacks and no forced fumbles. His high was three tackles, which he reached against Baltimore and again against Houston. The logs show no appearance for him in Sunday's game at Indianapolis, which came three days after the incident. The box score for that game lists no individual player lines, so we can't confirm whether he was active, and none of the reporting addresses it.
The release comes as Tennessee's season has just started to show signs of life. The Titans are 1-5 and fourth in the AFC South. They beat the Colts 26-20 on Sunday, their first win of the year, after losing 26-3 to Houston and 24-18 at Baltimore. The Colts outgained them 399 yards to 186 and held the ball for 38:32 to 21:28, and Tennessee won anyway. Its box score shows a defensive or special-teams touchdown and a 3-1 turnover edge.
The Titans host Cleveland on Sunday, Oct. 25. They will play without a defensive tackle who was on the roster for the first six games, and the team has said it won't discuss the matter further.
