Michael Sweetney, a former first-round NBA draft pick out of Georgetown, has died at age 43. His wife, India, announced his passing Thursday via Facebook, per reporting from The New York Post.
Sweetney was selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks in the 2003 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons with the Knicks before being traded to the Chicago Bulls. According to ESPN, he played four seasons total in the NBA between the two franchises.
At Georgetown, Sweetney was an All-American big man and one of the program's greatest players.
