Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. were ejected after getting into a fight on the opening kickoff at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, per ESPN. The ejections came just 13 seconds into the game, according to multiple outlets covering the Week 5 matchup.
The chaos unfolded immediately. Jacksonville returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown, though the return was called back on a holding penalty, per Pro Football Talk and Yahoo Sports. Despite the penalty and the subsequent ejections, the sequence set a fractious tone for the remainder of the game.
For Philadelphia, the loss of Trotter arrives at a particularly difficult time. The Eagles entered Week 5 with a 2-2 record and on a two-game losing streak, including a 27-7 road loss to Chicago on Monday, September 28 and a 24-20 home defeat to the Rams on Sunday, October 4. Now they'll face Jacksonville—which sits at 3-1 and atop the AFC South after winning its last two games—without one of their linebackers from the start.
The Eagles play the Carolina Panthers at home next Sunday, October 18. Jacksonville will host Houston the same day.
