Tyler Shough has been playing with two broken bones in his left, non-throwing hand, ESPN reported, citing sources. ESPN's Adam Schefter is the named source in the NFL Trade Rumors write-up. CBS Sports, which describes the Saints quarterback as the 2025 second-round pick, says the damage is to two fingers. ESPN's short summary says only "two broken bones" in the hand, so the fingers detail comes from CBS alone.
NFL Trade Rumors adds that Shough got hurt in Week 4 against the Falcons. It also says he has played with extra tape and padding on the hand and has handed off with his right. The summaries we have don't give a timeline, a surgery decision or any practice status.
The game log fits that window. The Atlanta game on Oct. 5 was New Orleans' fourth of the season, a 45-24 loss in which Shough went 30 of 48 for 286 yards and one touchdown. Last Sunday against Minnesota, a 23-13 loss, he was 16 of 25 for 96 yards, 3.8 yards per attempt, with two interceptions and a 38.1 rating. That is his worst line of the year by a wide margin. It is one game, and the reports don't link the injury to his play.
The injured hand is his left, so ball security is one thing to watch. Early on he had fumbled five times in three games, losing three: two in Detroit, one in Baltimore and two against the Raiders. The log shows no fumbles in the Atlanta or Minnesota games. Over five games he has completed 137 of 205 passes (66.8 percent) for 1,299 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions, and he has been sacked 13 times. He has also run 16 times for 72 yards and a score.
The Saints are 1-4, fourth in the NFC South, and on a three-game losing streak that began with a 35-27 home loss to Las Vegas on Sept. 27. Their next game is today at the Giants, which will be the first look at Shough since the reports came out.
