The Cowboys beat the Eagles 38-21 at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night, and they did it by running the ball. Javonte Williams set a career high with 155 yards, per Pro Football Talk. Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes. The box score shows Williams carried 25 times for 6.2 yards a carry, with a long of 34, and also scored a touchdown. Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards as a team and finished with 416 total yards to Philadelphia's 321.
Prescott was efficient rather than busy. He went 15 of 27 for 212 yards with no interceptions and a 118.1 rating. CeeDee Lamb caught five passes for 74 yards and two scores, one of them a 9-yarder in the first quarter, according to the r/nfl game thread. George Pickens had a 21-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter and finished with four catches for 57 yards. Kicker Brandon Aubrey went 3 for 3 on field goals, including a 55-yarder that opened the scoring. Dallas was 8 of 13 on third down and did not turn the ball over.
The Eagles stayed close early. Dallas led 10-7 after one quarter and 20-14 at halftime, and Philadelphia trailed 28-21 after three. The Eagles then went scoreless in the fourth while Dallas added 10. Saquon Barkley scored on an 8-yard run and finished with 62 yards on seven carries, an 8.9 average. Dameon Pierce had a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Tanner McKee threw for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and was sacked twice. Philadelphia was 5 of 12 on third down and averaged 5.4 yards per pass attempt.
The standings explain why the Cowboys' coverage stresses the division race. Dallas is 3-4 and second in the NFC East, 1.5 games behind the Giants, who are 4-2. Yahoo Sports framed the win as keeping Dallas alive in that race. Blogging The Boys said Dallas had "officially responded," and called the Eagles far removed from what they hoped to be this season. The win ended a two-game skid that included a 23-13 loss at Green Bay and a 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay.
Philadelphia's slide is now five straight losses. The Eagles are 2-5 and third in the division, with a run differential of minus 48. Their last three losses came by 17 points to Dallas, 11 to Carolina and two at Jacksonville.
Both teams play again on Sunday, Nov. 1. Dallas hosts Arizona, and Philadelphia travels to Washington.
