The Padres swept the Cubs in the Wild Card Series with a 4-1 victory, advancing to the NLDS. Five Padres pitchers combined on a five-hitter, per ESPN, while Gavin Sheets contributed a pinch-hit two-run homer.
Chicago's struggles at the plate defined the series. Yahoo Sports reported that Pete Crow-Armstrong and Alex Bregman went a combined 0 for 15 with a walk and eight strikeouts over the two games. A Reddit post noted that Crow-Armstrong and Yordan Alvarez, the two MVP favorites, went a combined 1 for 15 as their teams were swept in the Wild Card round, though the Cubs are the only team mentioned in the professional reporting.
