Saquon Barkley was active for Monday night's Eagles game against the Cowboys. Bleeding Green Nation's Brandon Lee Gowton noted that he played even though he was ruled questionable on the final injury report. Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams reported that outside linebackers Jonathan Greenard (ankle) and Jalyx Hunt (knee/ankle) were also active.
Bleeding Green Nation, which covered the team's official Week 7 announcement, listed six Eagles inactives: DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Nolan Smith, Michael Carter II, Jake Majors and Cole Payton. Smith's absence matters most for the offense. Nolan Smith's absence leaves Greenard and Hunt as the available edge rushers named in the reports. Only Bleeding Green Nation gave the full list. The Pro Football Talk summary covers only the two linebackers.
Barkley's playing time bears out the decision to suit him up. In the game, he had 7 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, with a long of 29, plus 2 catches for 9 yards. That is 8.9 yards per carry. Before Monday his season totals were modest. He had 15 carries for 82 yards at Chicago and 15 for 83 against Washington. In the other two games where he had rushing carries, he had 4 carries for 9 yards at Tennessee and 2 for 8 against the Rams.
Greenard has played only 3 games this season, with 1 tackle, no sacks and a forced fumble, so his ankle has already cost him time. Hunt has 5 games, 15 tackles (12 solo) and no sacks. Neither has a sack this year, which is the number the pass rush will want to improve against a Dallas offense that gained 275 yards and scored on four of five possessions in the first half, per Yahoo Sports.
Dallas led 20-14 at halftime and 28-21 at the end of the third quarter, with 330 total yards to Philadelphia's 240. The Eagles are 15 of 23 for 131 passing yards, and they have taken one sack. Neither team has turned the ball over.
The stakes are high for both clubs, who entered at 2-4 in the NFC East. Philadelphia is on a four-game losing streak, with its last three losses coming against Carolina (25-14), Jacksonville (19-17) and the Rams (24-20). Dallas had lost two straight, to Green Bay and Tampa Bay, after winning at Houston 34-30. Both teams play again Sunday, Nov. 1. The Eagles are at Washington, and the Cowboys host Arizona.
