Aaron Philo is starting at quarterback for Florida against Georgia, and he has had a hard start. CBS Sports' Brandon Marcello reported that the junior is back from the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Texas upset. ESPN, citing sources, said Philo will start over Tramell Jones Jr. as the Gators try to end a five-game losing streak against the Bulldogs.

The game is in progress. BenchScout's box score has Georgia ahead 10-0, with Philo 5 of 7 for 26 yards and two interceptions. Jones has also played, going 3 of 4 for 14 yards. Florida at Georgia is still open, but the quarterback decision is already a central part of the afternoon.

Yahoo Sports framed the choice as a risk. One of its headlines called it a "curious" call and said Florida was benching its winning signal-caller. That is a fair description of the record. Jones started the 27-24 win at Texas on Oct. 17, going 22 of 35 for 155 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. He added 41 yards on 10 carries. Another Yahoo item described Philo as the starter through Florida's first six games, which makes this a return to the original job. The outlets differ on the injury picture. Yahoo's ClutchPoints post said both Philo and Jones were questionable for the game, a detail the other reports don't mention.

Philo's season before today was steadier than it was explosive. In six starts he threw for 1,341 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. His best game was 275 yards and three touchdowns against FAU. His worst stretch came in Florida's two losses before the Texas game, 45-17 at Missouri and 38-19 against South Carolina. He had 197 yards and one touchdown at Missouri. Against South Carolina he had 227 yards, one touchdown, one interception and two fumbles, one of them lost. Jones's season line is 341 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, much of it in relief.

The outlets also disagree on where Florida stands. ESPN lists the Gators at No. 17 and Yahoo calls them unranked. BenchScout has them at 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, sixth in the conference, with a one-game winning streak from the Texas result. Georgia is 6-1 with a one-game losing streak. Yahoo and CBS both list the Bulldogs at No. 3.

Florida's next game is at home against Oklahoma on Saturday, Nov. 7. Who is under center for that game will depend on how Philo and Jones fare in Atlanta and on how the shoulder holds up. No outlet has said anything about a longer-term plan.
