Ryan Fitzpatrick had little good to say about Bo Nix after the Broncos beat the Seahawks 17-14 in overtime on Thursday night. "That right there is garbage," the quarterback-turned-analyst said, per Pro Football Talk and Yahoo Sports, which described him as repeatedly teeing off on Denver's QB. In a clip posted to r/nfl, he went further: "Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It's almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he's playing football." Yahoo Sports' separate write-up carried the 'almost disrespectful' line in its headline and tied it to the TNF showing.

Awful Announcing (Megan Armstrong) supplied the numbers behind the criticism: 107 passing yards at four yards per attempt, and six straight punts in the second half. Our box score agrees. Nix went 17 of 27 with no touchdowns, no interceptions, a 71.1 rating and two sacks for 13 yards. He ran four times for 2 yards. Denver finished with 168 total yards on 2.9 yards per play, and converted 3 of 14 third downs.

The other half of Awful Announcing's account is that Denver won anyway. It credits the defense, and notes that Sam Darnold threw a back-breaking interception in overtime. Seattle outgained Denver 353 yards to 168, ran 82 plays to 57, and had 24 first downs to 13. The Seahawks turned it over three times, with two interceptions and a lost fumble, and the Broncos none. Wil Lutz's 53-yard field goal settled it.

The night was not an outlier. Nix's six games this season total 1,049 passing yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, with 114 completions on 189 attempts. The Thursday game was his lowest yardage of the year. The next lowest was 123 yards at the Chargers on Oct. 11, a 23-17 Denver win. In his other four games he threw for 131, 186, 214 and 288 yards. The 288, against Jacksonville on Sept. 20, is the only time he has passed 214. He also fumbled three times at Kansas City on Sept. 14 and twice against the Chargers.

Denver is 4-2 and second in the AFC West, on a two-game winning streak. Seattle is 3-3, second in the NFC West, and has lost two straight. Before Thursday it lost 32-29 to San Francisco on Oct. 11. The Seahawks host Kansas City on Oct. 25. The Broncos play at Arizona the same day, and Fitzpatrick's criticism will stay attached to Nix until the offense gives him a better game.
