In 1955, Dan Rooney penned a letter to his father, Steelers owner Art Rooney, telling him about a player that was available to draft. He told his father that this player was the best he'd ever seen, and that the Steelers would be fools not to select him.

They ultimately did, selecting the player Dan had recommended in the 9th round of the 1955 NFL Draft, with the 102nd pick. Coach Walt Kiesling, a Hall of Fame lineman, viewed things differently however. It was a mistake to draft such a stupid, scrawny player, he told Art Rooney. "He's too dumb to remember the plays," he said.
