Notre Dame's defense is entering a very pivotal point in the 2026 season. Since their dominant performance against Purdue, this unit has failed to live up to expectation in every game outside of Stanford. They struggled against North Carolina, couldn't get off the field in crucial moments against BYU and put on a pitiful 1st half performance against the Navy Midshipmen. Defensive coordinator Chris Ash and head coach Marcus Freeman have a lot to get worked out prior to their matchup against Miami
