The Chiefs beat the Chargers 22-6 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday to improve to 5-0. Per Pro Football Talk, they scored nine points on their first two possessions and never needed more. ESPN's game story says Kenneth Walker ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and that Kansas City is one of the NFL's last three unbeaten teams. Yahoo Sports called the Chargers "depleted" and ESPN called them "injury-plagued". Neither summary we have names the injured players.

The box score shows how lopsided the game was. Kansas City gained 422 yards to Los Angeles' 259 and averaged 7.4 yards per play to 4.1. Walker carried 19 times for 128 yards, 6.7 a carry, with a long of 33. The Chiefs as a team ran for 150 yards on 27 attempts. Harrison Butker went 3 for 4 on field goals, with a long of 50, and 1 for 2 on extra points. That accounts for the other 10 points. The Chiefs led 19-3 at halftime, 9-3 after the first quarter and 10 more in the second.

Patrick Mahomes completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards, 9.1 per attempt. He threw no touchdowns and one interception, and he was not sacked. He also ran five times for 16 yards. Xavier Worthy led the receivers with seven catches for 73 yards. Travis Kelce and Noah Gray each had 53 yards. Our season line for Mahomes, which counts four games, shows 1,037 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Sunday was a day when the offense didn't need him to add to the touchdown total.

Arrowhead Pride's Ron Kopp Jr. framed the game as a mismatch that showed up mainly in Kansas City's defense against Los Angeles' offense, and the numbers back that up. Justin Herbert went 22 of 37 for 204 yards, no touchdowns and one interception, and was sacked four times. The Chargers converted 5 of 16 third downs and went 0 for 3 on fourth down. They were 0 for 3 in the red zone and managed 73 rushing yards on 22 carries. Cameron Dicker's two field goals, the longest from 30 yards, were their only points. George Karlaftis had a sack, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits. Jack Cochrane's interception was returned 48 yards.

The Chiefs were not clean. They were penalized eight times for 89 yards, lost a fumble and turned the ball over twice in all. They also went 1 for 4 in the red zone and settled for field goals on drives that could have ended in touchdowns. None of it mattered against a Chargers offense that never got past 3 points in a quarter.

Kansas City has won five straight, including 30-27 at Las Vegas on Oct. 4 and 24-10 at Miami on Sept. 27, and leads the AFC West. It travels to Seattle next Sunday, Oct. 25. The Chargers are 0-6 and in fourth place in the division. They lost 23-17 to Denver last week and 30-23 at Seattle the week before. They visit the Rams on Nov. 1.
